Care Ministries

We care compassionately for all and nourish a culture of caring.  Devoted to extending spiritual care and dedicated to helping with the tangible needs of our members and friends, we offer a loving heart, a listening ear, an open hand, and a generous spirit. Please contact us if you or a loved one are experiencing an illness, hospitalization, birth, or death, have a prayer request, or need pastoral care.

Care from the Pastoral Staff

Our clergy are gifted in listening and caring for members of our church and community. Each day, Monday through Friday, hospital and rehabilitation center visits are made by an ordained staff person. A non-ordained lay volunteer visits those in the hospital and rehab centers on weekends. Please contact us if you or a loved one is hospitalized for an emergency, scheduled operation, or any other reason.

Deacons

Our Board of Deacons is dedicated to ministries of care and compassion. Fifty-five deacons serve designated sections of the congregation, known as chapels. They deliver flowers to our sick and homebound members after Sunday worship and on special holy days like Easter and Christmas Eve. Deacons also bring home communion to those unable to attend in-person services, extending the love and fellowship of our church to all.  Please contact us to connect with a deacon.

Stephen Ministers

Stephen Ministers are trained laypeople who provide one-on-one, confidential care to individuals going through difficult times such as grief, illness, divorce, or other life challenges. They offer a compassionate and non-judgmental listening ear, walking alongside those in need to provide emotional and spiritual support. Stephen Ministers extend the care of the church by being present for others during their time of struggle, helping them experience God’s love and grace. Please contact us if you would like to speak with a Stephen Minister.

Stephen Ministry sponsors a monthly program designed to equip the congregation with tools and insights for providing care and compassion to those in need.

Parish Nurses

First Presbyterian's parish nurses, Stacey Pakela, R.N. and Barb DeLancey, R.N., M.S.N., are healthcare professionals who combine their medical expertise with spiritual care to support the health and well-being of the church community. They provide guidance on health-related issues, offer screenings and education, and serve as compassionate caregivers during times of illness or recovery.  Our Parish nurses work closely with pastors and congregational care teams to promote holistic wellness, addressing both physical and emotional needs while offering spiritual encouragement and prayer.
